چکیده

This paper is concerned with the Richards equation in a heterogeneous domain, each subdomain of which homogeneous and represents rocktype. Our first contribution to rigorously prove convergence toward weak solution cell-centered finite-volume schemes upstream mobility without Kirchhoff’s transform. second numerically demonstrate relevance locally refining grid at interface between subregions, where discontinuities occur, order preserve an acceptable accuracy for results computed under consideration.

Mixed Finite Elements for the Nonlinear Richards’ Equation

In this work, we present a two-dimensional mixed-hybrid finite element model of variably saturated flow on unstructured triangular meshes. Velocities are approximated using lowest order Raviart-Thomas (RT0) elements with piecewise constant pressure. The resulting nonlinear systems of algebraic equations are solved using Picard or Newton iterations in combination with ad hoc preconditioning tech...

Mixed Finite Elements and Newton-type Linearizations for the Solution of Richards' Equation

We present the development of a two-dimensional Mixed-Hybrid Finite Element (MHFE) model for the solution of the nonlinear equation of variably saturated ow in groundwater on unstructured triangular meshes. By this approach the Darcy velocity is approximated using lowest order Raviart-Thomas (RT 0) elements and is \exactly" mass-conserving. Hybridization is used to overcome the ill-conditioning...

Qualitative Mathematical Analysis of the Richards Equation

The Richards equation is widely used as a model for the flow of water in unsaturated soils. For modelling one-dimensional flow in a homogeneous soil, this equation can be cast in the form of a specific nonlinear partial differential equation with a time derivative and one spatial derivative. This paper is a survey of recent progress in the pure mathematical analysis of this last equation. The e...

Order of Convergence Estimates for an Euler Implicit, Mixed Finite Element Discretization of Richards' Equation

We analyze a discretization method for a class of degenerate parabolic problems that includes the Richards’ equation. This analysis applies to the pressure-based formulation and considers both variably and fully saturated regimes. To overcome the difficulties posed by the lack in regularity, we first apply the Kirchhoff transformation and then integrate the resulting equation in time. We state ...
